Children search for Easter eggs, prizes at annual Aurora event

AURORA - Once the signal is given, about 2,000 children are expected to scramble to find brightly colored Easter Eggs at the annual hunt held at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets.

And in this hunt, many of the eggs contain a prize. Even if a prize egg is not found, each egg will contain a treat.

Living Designs: Ethan Allen among home-furnishing stores opening ...

Home-furnishings manufacturer and retailer Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. has opened its first store in the Triad.

The high-end store - covering 17,500 square feet and offering full design services - is off Hanes Mall Boulevard at Shoppes on Little Creek near Texas Land & Cattle Steak House.

The store employs 18 people, including 12 designers.

"We're very excited to be in this Triad market," said Andrea Crews, the senior project manager. "The response has been wonderful."

Hanes Mall Boulevard is beginning to look like furniture row. Ashley Furniture recently opened a store near Hanes Point Shopping Center and Hudson's Broyhill Furniture Gallery is expected to open a store at Shoppes on Little Creek next year.

Ethan Allen's design center has a different feel from that of the traditional furniture store.

Internet, Information About Food and Cooking

JupiterResearch has found the Internet to be an indispensable channel for food advertisers because 50 percent of online users are looking for food and cooking information online. Detailed in a new report, "Targeting Online Food Lovers -- Identifying Segments and Online Advertising Opportunities," JupiterResearch reveals that food advertisers should fully leverage the online channel and explore emerging opportunities around video and mobile content.

Advertisers in niche categories including organic foods and gourmet foods must pay particular attention to the online advertising opportunity. Online food lovers that prefer to buy and eat gourmet foods, organic foods and 'good-for-you' foods are significantly more likely to use online food web sites than are online food lovers that say they primarily buy or choose their foods based on price.

TAKE YOUR PICNIC

Throwing clumps of clover into her parrain's messy hair will do that to a 3-year-old. Her blond ringlets were wet with perspiration as she twirled around in circles, tiny bare feet amongst the buttercups in bloom.

It was a postcard-perfect spring Saturday, screaming out for a picnic and kite flying. Parrain launched into flying lessons, hoisting the big kite high in the air and helping her wind the string, while I spread the blanket in the grass, opened the basket and assembled our simple lunch: pasta salad, coleslaw, grapes, a half-bottle of cheap red wine, a Thermos of iced tea, a few sugar cookies.

What is it about outdoor dining that can make even cold snack food served from white paper cartons seem so gourmet?

Humans love to eat alfresco.

Hip habitats

People will no doubt pick up ideas for their own homes. Once they get inspired, they can purchase stylish purses, handmade jewelry and whimsical art at the Unique Boutique, a shopping experience with a couple dozen vendors, at Rockford Bank & Trust, 127 N. Wyman St., Rockford.

Proceeds of Unique Spaces will benefit projects including Mayas House, a Rockford drop-in center for homeless children.

A few highlights of what you will see:

The Camp Avenue Kitchen: In Rockfords historic Churchills Grove, a Georgian-style home built in 1917 with a French Country kitchen, natural stone tiles and cork floors.

The Key West Theater: In a split-bedroom, ranch-style home, an impressive home theater with a 72-inch high-definition screen, framed by extensive millwork, with recessed lighting.
