New downtown shop offers gourmet greatness

For fans of high-end food and gifts, Mawby's has a lot to offer. Just ask owner Chris Perry. "It's so difficult to describe, short of a book, what's in here," said Perry from within his downtown "Gourmet Luxury Lifestyle" shop on Barnard Street, which opened March 19. "People would ask me, 'What's Mawby's going to be?' I used to dread the question. There are so many unusual products. There's so much going on in the store, it's difficult to distill it into a short answer."For starters, Mawby's boasts gourmet food that customers can order for carry-out eating. A duck breast sandwich and buffalo meat burger highlight the unique menu offerings. "We're a restaurant with no seating," said Perry. "We're selling people gourmet food that they can take home with them."Then there's the imported cheeses, chocolates and desserts, and hard-to-find gift items | like antique Victorian-era flasks made of sterling silver and crocodile-skin from London, leather luggage and folding chairs from Africa and hand-made purses and cutlery.

Gourmet International Coffee in High Demand by US Soldiers

Chewing the Fat With the Restaurant Critic Who Ate His Way to a ...

LOS ANGELES Jonathan Gold, who this week became the first restaurant critic to win a Pulitzer Prize, is giving directions to the Mexican food joint he has chosen for lunch. "I'll be the chubby white guy with long red hair," he says. "You can't miss me."

He is, as promised, Falstaffian in proportion, but he carries his girth well. He looks like a man who has eaten professionally, and with tremendous gusto, for two decades. He is wearing a black leather jacket and a faded yellow T-shirt that reads "Evil Taco." He does have long henna hair streaked with gray and a perpetual squint. He'd make a good pirate.

Looking back at successful history of Naples Dinner Theatre

Pet rocks were all the rage, the world saw the first joint space mission between the U.S. and Russia, and the record of the year was “I Honestly Love You," by Olivia Newton-John.

It was 1975 and it became a year to remember in Southwest Florida, when Julius Fiske, a retired New York businessman, and other investors opened the Naples Dinner Theatre on Oct. 7 with the episodic saga of “George M."

When the theater off Immokalee Road closes its curtain after a final performance Sunday night, Naples will lose another bit of its history.

“It's sad to see. But I guess that's just part of progress," said Collier County Commissioner Frank Halas, whose district has been home to the theater for more than three decades.

The dinner theater joins a long list of other landmarks that Naples has lost in recent years.

LET'S DO GRENADA

Wow! What a food tour this has been. There have been some problems in many of the islands because of ICC rules and security regulations, so getting to and from restaurants at the venues during the day has not been promising. The nights, however, tend to be better. There is, so far, a lot of disappointment among the locals as to the extent of 'great business' this cricket was going to bring. But, it is after all, about cricket.

What a game against Ireland last Friday! Sabina Park was in true form. It seems to me that it's in Jamaica that the stands are full with people certainly letting it all out, having a ball and really getting into the excitement. But we are now off to Grenada as cricket winds its way towards this Isle of Spice.

The three-island state of Grenada (Carriacou & Petit Martinique included),with its picturesque capital and port St.

Want a cup of cat's poo coffee? That'll be $50

Caffeine aficionados in Australia can now drink the Grange Hermitage of coffee, the Rolls Royce of their favourite bean— cat's poo coffee.

It's the most expensive cup of Joe on the planet and locals in Townsville are reportedly mad for it.

Called Kopi Luwak, it's an Indonesian coffee made from the faeces of a Luwak, a small cat-like creature native to the island nation's coffee-growing regions.
