Norwich: Orgasmic

With a name like Orgasmic this gastro-bar puts itself in a position where it's got to deliver - and good food is something you simply cannot fake. This is one of those places that attempts to appeal to all comers. On Friday and Saturday nights its rammed with lively revellers, but at lunchtimes and early evening, when food rather than lager and cocktails are the most common orders, there's an altogether different, laid-back vibe.Facing new competition on its doorstep, Orgasmic has recently undergone a bit of a facelift. A new spacious upstairs has been created giving extra leather sofa lounging space and room for more tables. While downstairs the place has become noticeably more restaurant than bar.To go with this there's a new menu - but don't worry, the gourmet pizzas, which you can actually watch being cooked in the wood fired oven, are still the star of the show.

Gourmet Guys get guts growling

Chefs fine-tuned their recipes for competition, guests reviewed the menu, money flowed from pockets, and the feeding frenzy began Sunday at the Gourmet Guys fundraiser at the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls.

It was the sixth year for this fundraiser for the center, and the smell of a good meal enticed hundreds.

The event gathered more than 40 Sioux Falls men to serve up their own special recipes for guests. Money goes to support programs and services at the center.

Gerald Beninga, president and CEO of the Center for Active Generations, said the large crowds and a gathering of famous "chefs" is like magic.

"It is a big social event, brings out people and resources from every part of our community," he said.

Tom Hanson, KDLT-TV anchor, is in his fourth year, and said it is amazing how much the crowd has grown throughout the years.

Memphis has great places to improve cooking skills

Last week, I got an e-mail from a reader asking about good places to go for cooking classes. "I am not trying to be a professional chef or anything, just looking for a class to give me ideas and knowledge about cooking for my family," she said.

Memphis is lucky to have some great places around town where the home cook can brush up on the basics as well as learn some new techniques and recipes.

Barbecue fanatic starts group to promote NC's cooking tradition

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Jim Early thinks North Carolina hasn't done enough to show its love for barbecue.

So the Winston-Salem man formed the N-C Barbecue Society. The group's goal is to promote all styles, cooking methods and regions. The rolls of the organization include names like Maya Angelou and Bob Timberlake.

Early says in the past the state has bowed to other barbecue hot spots like Memphis and Kansas City.

He's established a historic barbecue trail that promotes 25 restaurants. He plans additional barbecue festivals and wants to produce documentaries on the Tar Heel cuisine.

Weird News - Kelly Tracer

Teens: Forget what your parents are saying, all that text messaging you are doing could pay off big-time if you get good enough. Practice, practice, practice, and you might win enough money to pay for college.

Here's one of today's odd stories from Associated Press:

13-year-old Pennsylvania teen wins $25,000 prize in New York text-messaging contest

NEW YORK -- Thirteen-year-old Morgan Pozgar, of Claysburg, Pa., was crowned LG National Texting champion Saturday after she typed "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from "Mary Poppins" in 15 seconds.

"I'm going to go shopping and buy lots of clothes," the teen said after winning her $25,000 prize from the electronics company LG.

Morgan defeated nearly 200 other competitors at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan to become East Coast champion and then beat West Coast champion Eli Tirosh, 21, of Los Angeles.
