Last Friday evening, while most Cornellians were enjoying the start of a weekend, hundreds of students in the Hotel School were busily cooking, setting tables, perfecting decorations and practicing speeches. The event that was soon to start in the Grand Ballroom of the Statler Hotel, the annual Gala dinner, would host nearly 300 hotel industry leaders for the evening. The dinner was just one of many events that took place over the past weekend as part of the 82nd annual Hotel Ezra Cornell, which brought hundreds of hotel industry leaders to Cornell, and even more hotel students to plan and execute the weekend. Guests paid up to $1250 to be pampered in the hotel, eat gourmet food and participate in seminars relating to the industry. “It's a great way to bring industry leaders to campus," said Arthur Chang '07, managing director of HEC.
Visit from celebrity chef is the Cat's meow
SPRING VALLEY -- For celebrity chef Cat Cora, walking into a Spring Valley home that she'd never before visited on Tuesday afternoon and whipping up a gourmet meal for 12 was a piece of cake. Actually, make that baklava. Pistachio baklava. "I do Iron Chef. This is fun. This is down time," joked the diminutive chef who turns into a powerhouse when she appears on Food Network's Iron Chef America, a cooking competition that pits celebrity chefs against guest chefs. Cora, with 11 wins and only three losses is tied for the best record with Mario Batali. Her appearance in Spring Valley was the prize awarded to John Handforth for winning the InSinkErator Dirty Dish Dash online sweepstakes. Handforth, who is retired after 38 years with a telephone company, played the contest every day from the time he learned about it in late January until the game ended in February.

Add Value to Cashew Production
THE CASHEW Processors and Exporters Association of Ghana (CAPEAG) have appealed to government to double efforts at adding value to cashew production in the country. Speaking at the launch of the cashew week celebration in Accra on Tuesday, a Member of the Association, Mr. William Ayeetey said the Association currently needs major intervention from government to bridge the gap between production and export. .
