Chino Hills' City Broiler does it right

City Broiler is an exciting new restaurant that is located in the Cross Roads Market Place in Chino Hills.

This large restaurant features two dining areas and a large bar with many television screens to watch your favorite game while feasting on some really delicious and eye-popping dishes.

The "East coast steak house" decor features lots of brick and dark woods along with many booths and tables with black and white trim. It's the perfect setting for a relaxing and terrific dining experience for the entire family.

The menu has just about everything a true lover of food looks for in a restaurant. There's a multitude of tempting sandwiches, a large variety of fish and seafood entrees, juicy steaks and chicken along with beautiful salads and gourmet pizzas.

For starters, I decided to try the Fried Calamari and the Teriyaki Chicken Skewers.

New cookbooks promising speedy meals

When it comes to getting dinner on the table, speed isn't enough. Americans have come to demand gourmet style and flavors from cookbooks that promise fast and easy meals. How does the latest crop hold up?

"Hands-off Cooking," by Ann Martin Rolke (Wiley, 2007, $17.95)

The gist here is that the best fast meals are those that need not be tended to. And so while Rolke's recipes aren't fast by the Rachael Ray 30-minute-standard (the caramelized-onion brisket takes almost seven hours), they are designed to require little hands-on time.

Which is why rather than total start-to-finish times, Rolke offers what she calls hands-off time with each recipe. This does leave prep time a mystery, but she believes it's better to know how long you won't spend at the stove while the recipe cooks.

Eva Longoria Gets Second Bridal Shower

Typically, a woman gets to have one bridal bash before her wedding. But for Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, two bridal showers should do the trick. On Sunday, April 15, Housewives co-star Felicity Huffman gave Longoria an outdoor bridal bash at her Los Angeles home. The small co-ed gathering consisted of a sit-down lunch wherein guests feasted on a salad bar with chicken salmon, shrimp, gourmet cheeses with various wines and martinis. For desert, they gorged on chocolate chip cookies, brownies and white-chocolate pastries. Of course, guests also showered Longoria with gifts. Longoria told People, "It was such a special day! Felicity and my maid of honor, Brittany Olson, went above and beyond to make the whole afternoon beautiful and memorable. I can't thank them enough. I'm extremely blessed to be surrounded by my family, friends and co-workers and to have had them all together to celebrate this special moment in my life." Apart from Huffman’s bridal bash, Longoria aslo got an additional bridal party.shower This time, it was a girls-only party thrown by Desperate Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher.

Chocolatiers jump onto gourmet bandwagon

This Easter, don't be surprised if even the kids aren't satisfied by those waxy milk chocolate eggs that have long been the mainstay of Easter egg hunts.

These days, more Americans are snubbing typical childhood favorites in favor of premium chocolates that carry pedigrees such as a high cacao content, a lack of preservatives and, in some cases, even a specific country of origin.

Simply wrapping that chocolate around a nut or caramel won't always cut it, either. Exotic bonbons and truffles now boast ingredients like olive oil, fig, chili pepper and even wasabe.

Such chocolates can in some cases fetch more than $50 per pound, but the price tag doesn't seem to be slowing sales.

Research firm Mintel estimates that the market for premium chocolate — or chocolate that costs more than $8 per pound — is increasing by about 14 percent per year.

So You Can't Cook

The other day I received a very interesting personal message from sandra in which she politely reminded me that not everyone is like YumSugar and myself. There are some people, my mom and geeksugar included, who do not cook and there is nothing wrong with that. It's simply that they have no interest in getting down and dirty in the kitchen. geeksugar even confessed that when she follows the recipe exactly as stated on the back of the tollhouse chocolate chip bag, her cookies come out flat and inedible. Well what happens when the geeksugars, sandras, and souschefs (my mom) of the world want to host a party? They order in. Virtually every major supermarket has a pre-cooked, readymade section of gourmet dishes and appetizers, cheese plates and pasta salads. And if you are one of those people who despises grocery shopping as much as you do cooking, check out the appetizer store an online market where you pick the hors d'oeurves and they are delivered to your door.
